I think Dallas would rather pay a 3rd/4th line forward 4mil for 1 more year than a 5/6 defenseman 5.5mil for 4 more years. Also give up an asset in Shore. No thank you

If he were to go to Dallas he'd be top 4 next season. Highly doubt that Demers resigns with them. And Shore is just a name I picked from their prospect pool, could be any of their prospects

Girardi and Staal still have a lot of upside. They would be top a 4 D on on a lot of team and even the a 2 D on a handful of team. I think it is the Rangers who do not want to trade them. You can't trade Staal and lose Yandle in the Off-Season. Skei is un-proven and the UFA market in thin and expensive.

I wouldn't go crazy and say they have "a lot of upside". Do they have some talent yes, but I don't see teams knocking down our door trying to trade for them.

Yea, I don't think the first place Dallas would want a long term contract like Girardi's. Lots of good rentals available this year.
That's a lot to surrender for rebuilding Carolina. Maybe some up side Etem, but as you indicate Bourgue is a 4th liner., and 3rd and 7th are hardly rebuilding picks.
With Cam Ward likely gone, think the Canes want Nestrasil. In free agency, don't you think the Canes can spend about 5m a year better than on Staal?
