I think this is a pretty good and fair trade for both teams, but Pens have cheaper options as 3rd C.

The trade is close to fair, Boston would need to improve the pick or replace it with a prospect to balance the value added by the two additional years of Sheary's contract.

I don't think the trade is fair.. Career numbers for the two may be similar at this point but Sheary exploded last year and just signed a nice deal while Spooner doesn't appear to be on the upswing as much. Sheary's numbers last year almost all came at ES also - he is not just riding shotgun with Crosby, he is a legit top 6 winger.

I'm not trying to take away anything from sheary cuz I've seen him play and he's got talent, but I think he definitely benifits from being on a line with Crosby, I think about 80% of the players in this league would benifit from it. Take away a world class talent and you see how he really is. Crosby has the ability to make someone an all star from being on the same line as him is what my point was

Any trade for Spooner is a bad one. Not convinced he'll be in Boston's starting lineup.

As a Pittsburgh fan, I don't actually think he is a top 6 winger. I think he lacks raw skill of a top 6 winger, i mean half the time he makes a move he loses the puck or gets knocked off the puck or just knocked on the ground. But what he lacks in raw skill, he absolutely makes up for, 10 fold, in his abilitly to play away from the puck and general offensive awareness. Which seems to be exactly what Crosby wants. Let crosby do all the dirty work, while sheary finds a soft spot in the D and get easy tap ins. The Chemisty that Crosby, Guentzal and Sheary have, is veyr reminisnt of Crosby, Kunitz and Dupuis. So financially statswise and skillwise it may be a fair trade, but this trade would be a big time loss for the pens.
