I may be biased but that isn't an awful trade in terms of value. Swapping of third picks nullifies them, so maybe AV's don't send a pick back our way, but they get young high ceiling forwards in Kreider and Etem. And their defense is horrible (or so I hear) so Staal can step in and play big minutes. I might be off base here but who knows.

On the Rangers side, it's good Staal is gone, but is it worth risking multiple pieces of the future? Kreider's potential doesn't need to be pointed out, but I think Etem could really become something if he is given the correct situation to succeed. Him wasting away on the fourth line right now is a shame that's for sure.

Edit: assuming this happened by the way, the cap would be more, so the Rangers would need to go out and sign a fourth line player. Gibbons and Megna are great AHL players and 13th forwards, but I wouldn't want them in a spot of any real importance (as harsh as that sounds).

The NYR's need to do something with Hayes. He sucks on the wings and he likes to handle the puck to much. I would trade him before Krieder.

I hear what your saying Pavel, but remember what we are getting in return. Duchene is a monster and the kind of linemate that will thrive with Stepan. Colorado is very weak on the left side. you are right. R side they are very strong with Johnson, barrie and zadarov soon to arrive.

No they are not currently weak on the Left Side , next year they have Zadorov and Bigras coming up (who are lefties) plus Beuauchemin who has been playing really well, and Holden for a 3rd pairing guy, next year they wont be needing any left handed shots with those 4 plus Gormley, Siemens and Geertsen all lefties too. As it stands now, they have either under contract or prospects that are ready to make that jump too many Lefties
