Description
There are several keys to getting Vegas to part with some picks.
-----
1st and most importantly you must meet their needs!
-----
Vega's Needs!
- to move 2-3 d-men that will not clear waivers!
Engelland returning to Calgary lessens this burden.
Add in a waivers exempt Kylington (1-2 years needed in the AHL) but solid prospect that has been passed on the flames depth chart.
-----
- to add forwards that are NHL ready
Brouwer's contract may not be nice but a 2nd/3rd line RW that has worn a letter! Leadership - for 3 years is a need!
Shinkaruk might not make the flames opening night roster (with Tkachuk and JH on the LW) but will get his shot with Vegas!
-----
- to add forwards for their AHL affiliate
Klimchuk is a solid prospect that needs 1-2 more years in the AHL - has been passed on the flames depth chart.
-----
- to add an AHL goalie that can be called up to the NHL if they have an injury!
Rittich is the solution - can lead the crease in the AHL and is ready - if needed - to step up!

So Vegas gives up one of their best trade chips (Neal), a LV born player (Engelland, also a great marketing tool btw), PLUS picks for a terrible contract with negative trade value (Brouwer), 3 also-ran prospects (Rittich, Shinkaruk and Klimchuk) and 1 good prospect (Kylington). Doesn't add up. If you want Neal and Engelland, try a 1st, Kylington, Brouwer and another top prospect (Andersson, Fox, Jankowski, etc.)

At this stage of his career, not a chance Engelland is moving out of Vegas. The reason they took him in the expansion draft is that he's a local guy who the residents can relate too.

Brouwer most likely isn't going to waive his NTC, hugely different environment for starting a family.
Vegas signed Engelland to a 1 year deal. They picked him to be a face of the franchise because he's a local.

Also, it's picks Vegas wants. Their stated intention is to have a tidal wave of high ceiling prospects, and not worry about the standings for the next 3 seasons, until they can assemble a team that has a chance in the playoffs.
They would take Kylington, or his partner, because that's exactly the kind of player they want around in a few years.
Shinkaruk is worth something to them too.
That might be close to getting James Neal.

This deal feels more like "How can I sell Brouwer to Vegas", and that's looking at the issue backwards. The question is "Where would Brouwer sign off on going to" and then asking if it's worth it to meet the price of the 2-3 teams he names

As others have said this just doesn't make sense for Vegas. Only real positives are Kylington and Shinkaruk, but remember they took Engelland over Shinkaruk in the expansion draft so they probably aren't that high on him.

The Brouwer contract is a major negative to Vegas, they are only going to take those types of deals if you are adding major picks and prospects. It would probably take at least a 1st to take on Brouwer's deal alone.

This was all about meeting Las Vegas's needs...

The need to add prospects - need to move out a few d-men (instead of loosing them for nothing in late September - max roster will force this!)

Let me break this down...
Shinkaruk = 1st round 24th overall pick
Klimchuk = 1st round 28th overall pick
Both are taking longer to develop then originally predicted but both are progressing!
Kylington = 2nd round 60th overall pick
A solid D prospect that is waivers exempt (unlike 3-4 of their existing extra d-men!)
Bouwer = a bad - over priced contract BUT for a solid 3rd line leader - proven

This means Vegas is getting 1 late 1st + 1 late 2nd (worth more) for Neal - a 1 year rental? And 1 late 1st for eating Brouwer's contract - could be trad-able (eat 1.5 mil at the deadline say next year?)

That means Calgary gets an inexpensive D-man (if not Engelland than someone else that can play 3rd shut down D role) plus 2 late picks (3rd + 5th) for Rittich...
Rittich is way better than either Dansk or Lagace... Rittich can push Pichard - he can be called up if Pichard or Fleury are sick or injured...
Rittich may even be used as a servicable back-up to Pichard or Fleury if Vegas decides to trade either at the deadline for picks! So Vegas can make a big move for an additional 1st in January!

Guess it just me that thinks this is a win win for both teams but that's what comments are for... : )

By your logic can Colorado trade Yakupov (former 1st overall) for Dougie Hamilton?

No, that would never work. Draft position doesn't matter if a player doesn't progress as he should after the draft. At this point both Klimchuk and Shinkaruk offer very little in terms of value because they have not progressed like first round picks should. Both are looking at careers in the AHL unless some insane developmental leap happens this year. Remember, Vegas passed on Shinkaruk when they could have gotten him for free and signed Engelland as a FA. Clearly there isn't much value there.
