I dont see Motte as a reason Kasper/Mazur would be kept off the team. More likely a Czarnik role as a reliable vet you can call up for 2-3 games in a pinch.

I’m willing to bet the Walman trade was to free up money to go after Stamkos, but Nashville simply offered more.

Teams fill their AHL affiliates with 800K guys who aren’t quite NHLers anymore. It’s how you keep them competitive while also having depth for if injuries hit. He’ll obviously have a shot to make the club, but he’s easily buriable if a kid is ready. It a wink wink way of saying they will have to compete for a spot and you aren’t just giving it to them.
