Description
Is Trouba happening still? What do we do w/ Husso? This is looking like a pretty crappy team tbh.

The only positive is in this scenario a lot of the kids would be playing.

I'm guessing Trouba will be traded but not to Detroit.

He had to submit a NTC list today and he's not exactly happy about Drury trying to trade him.

Detroit is probably on that list.

But the way Yzerman has set up his roster leads me to believe there's a trade coming?

I don't know what's going on?

Your guess is as good as mine. 😬

There better be a trade coming because that RHD is absolute ass.

It's horrible. 🤮

Yzerman can trade Walman and a 2nd for nothing but he's too stubborn to buyout Holl?

He just can't admit he ****ed up.

I’m actually pretty happy with the day. But I also don’t have much interest in trying to patch together an 8 seed. Stayed out of the craziness, left spots open for the kids, and kept term on deals to a minimum which allows you to reset your cap next offseason to make a push. Also have room to go to full 8 year deals on both Seider and Raymond if they are open to it. I’d imagine remaining moves are the Trouba deal (or a different RHD) with Holl included, shipping out Husso with 50% retained to a team looking for a back up, and potentially moving Maata for a pick.

I'm struggling w/ that Walman trade too, I get that he said people didn't want to take on cap, but then every good FA D signed for like 5.5M for 10 years...

Walman is not Pesce/Roy etc. but still.

That sounds great but we heard Yzerman talk about how hard it is to move money.

Other GM's did it successfully.

Maybe it's just hard for him? 🤔

I'm really interested in seeing some progression from the kids, especially Simon and Mazur but that's going to be painful at times for sure. The LD and goalie situation is crazy right now.

Husso at 2.3 for one year should be moveable. That’s a backup goalie contract. Maata at 3x1 should also be moveable. I’m confused on what the plan is with Holl if the Trouba deal is in fact going to fall through. If you aren’t moving him, why no buyout?

Yeah Walman had some value at least.

When I first saw that trade I thought it said Walman to SJ for a 2nd.

It made sense.

Then I did a double take and saw Walman and a 2nd for FC. 🧐

I’ve been annoyed at Yzerman’s spending in free agency the last two years. Cant be upset with him when he actually shows restraint 🤷‍♂️. You poke around on Stamkos, but at the term and AAV he got, I would have passed too. Once that isn’t available, I’m very ok with sitting everything out.

Yzerman had no choice but to restrain himself with so many bad contracts already plus needing to allocate at least 17 mil for Seider and Raymond's contracts.

For whatever reason, I’d prefer that path to squeezing in a bunch of vets to try and sneak in to the playoffs. Roster isn’t ready. Have Husso, Lyon, Fabbri, Maata, Petry, Fischer, Kane all coming off the books next offseason with Seider and Raymond (presumably) already signed. It’s ok to take a step back this year and let the kids learn on the fly. You make your move next offseason.

Hopefully Yzerman doesn't replace the vets coming off the books next July 1st with new ones. 🙄

He has to play the kids at some point.

He can't keep saying "needs another year in Grand Rapids."

I’d expect Danielson on that roster as well as Cossa in a 1b role with Talbot. Wallinder should also be ready

I'm also okay with it as long as he gives the young guys a chance to play. I'm guessing he swung and missed on a few free agents. Walman deal even makes less sense now, especially when you replace him with Gus, well isn't awful but seems pointless. Paying a 2nd for 1.4M in cap savings.......

There is no rationale for that trade. Yzerman seems to put guys in his doghouse and there is no going back. Reminds me a bit of the Vrana trade, but this one was worse. Walman started getting sat last season in the middle of the losing streak the game after they were in Vegas. I don’t know specifically what happened, but I’ve had theories for awhile. I think Yzerman just wanted him gone.

I agree with that completely. Varna is a perfect example of that and also Ned. Doesn't mean you have to be an idiot about it though. It was reported that teams would have been interested in him. Also, if you do desperately needed to move cap, why move the top 4 option over the one that only played 30 games when they make the same? Frustrating.
