I could see why Marner might go for it. No idea why Vegas would though.

Like in any Marner trade scenario, he agrees to an extension. Theadore doesn't have to. They can find another 3rd line centre. So a 3rd line centre and a defensemen on an expiring deal… going to have to put some picks in. Vegas is perpetually in win now mode and a 1st in 4 years they aren’t thinking about. This is of course my ‘expert’ opinion. (I know nothing, just a delusion fan, enjoying capfriendly while we can)

Well it has to do with Vegas's cap this season. 11m Marner and two 1m players cost 13m. Theodore, Roy and the cap to resign Stephenson cost 13m. So is a Marner really benefical to Vegas even in 24/25?
