Trouba is only valuable to Detroit at a very specific price point. Holl off the books, with retention, and a minimal asset on top of it to acquire. They are signing someone on the right side in the same AAV range regardless, but having 2 years of term, as opposed to 4 or 5 years in free agency has its perks. If the criteria doesn’t fit, keep him. There are other (probably better) options in free agency for 5.5 mil per year. As a straight cap dump with 2.5 mil retained NY probably needs to be sending back a 3rd the other way.
