If you lose all hope because they decide the player they can get at 14 is better than any player they can trade it for (And it probably is true) then you didn’t have much hope to begin with. Of course, nobody in this fan base really has much hope left anyway. But when you’re on every single players’ no trade clause list, and every GM wants to bend you over for a third line player with a bad contract, building through the draft is the only thing you can do.

Keeping the pick is better than using it to make a bad trade. That sounds like that would’ve been the only option. You may have no faith in this management team, but if the trades being offered are so bad that even they say no, they had to be terrible.
