Caps fans are gonna love him. Guy does everything right and scores in bunches when he does. If he pops this is a great deal for Washington but if he plays at his career average it’s a pretty fair deal across the board.

This screams Oshie LTIRetirement but even if he doesn’t they should still be able to fit everyone with some maneuvering. Pretty much guarantees the caps are out on Ehlers, Necas, Guentzel, etc.

Yeah I think this confirms that oshie is likely done and that they are unwilling to trade away their 1st or take on a big name FA. I like the move though. Worst comes to worst they can easily flip him for similar value at the TDL

Yeah I’d imagine if they retain 50% at the deadline you’re looking at least at a second rounder in return if he plays up to par with past seasons. Otherwise you could extend him for 4-5 years at probably closer to 4.5-5.25m, definitely not a raise unless he really pops off imo.

I like the move. Good for this year, low cost, right age range, leaves us with flexibility for next season.
