Description
Assumes it's now or never for Caps, which makes Pleks a better player for them than Eller. There's room to play of cap and mid-level picks.

Assumes the same "win now" desire for Columbus and plays a bit on Tortorella's preference for American players. Eller gives them a good two-way centre, which they lack and would be re-signable if it works out. Chucky and Petry are plug-and-play and would add dynamism to CBJ's attack. The move helps CBJ up front now and there's ample young D to take Johnson's place. He's a UFA after this season anyway.

Meanwhile, Savard comes home. Johnson plays with Weber (could be awesome or awful), And Dubois reunites with Drouin, his buddy from Ste-Agathe-des-Monts.

JDLR and a second rounder (could be upgraded based on Bennett's performance) go for Sam Bennett, who seems to need a reboot to his development. Playing with veteran wingers like Pacioretty, Jagr and Gallagher would do wonders. That's the bet anyway.

I hate to let Davidson and Benn go, but there's just no room at the inn.

The addition of Jagr gives Drouin and Dubois a savvy sniper who knows all the right spots to hit. Next year, Scherbak should be ready to step in, Jagr re-signs, or a new UFA is picked up.

Columbus would be amazing with Chucky and Eller. Habs were super high on Dubois last year. He kind of messed the bed last year in the WJHC. But if he can make the jump as a centre, he'd be awesome. Johnson is tough guy to read. I would have preferred Ryan Murray, but I don't think he's on offer. Agree that Savard and Petry are similar.

I'm not as high on Bennett as you are. I think he's just one of those kids who never makes the jump out of junior. But for a checker (a good one) and a second rounder, it's not a bad gamble. Calgary doesn't seem to need/want him that much. I bet they ask for Hudon in stead of JDLR.

Thanks Rafiki. I feel good about all those moves. Bennett lost a year to injury. I think he'll get his game back.

Why would Calgary give up on a young player with upside for a borderline NHLer and a 2nd?

A few reasons: they're about to have to give him a decent second contract; he has fallen behind other prospects in terms of development; he has indicated that doesn't want to play there anymore, in Monaghan's shadow. JDLR is a fine player in the right situation -- Therrien was definitely not the right situation for him and, like Bennett, he'd do well in new environment. But if you'd rather have McCarron, Carr or a Dman, say the word.
