The Habs are trending in the right direction but still lack ELITE offensive talent. For the sake of it, and if Miracles do exist, let's assume that the top 4 after Celebrini go Demidov (CHI), Levshunov (ANA), and Lindstrom (CBJ). If this happens, then the Habs are probably going to take Zeev Buium. If that happens, the Habs need to trade a Dman or 2, prospects/picks for some scoring help. They also need to unclog their D, they have too many.
I also think moving out players for the sake of the young ones developing properly is key. Dvorak comes to mind, who has a $4.45M AAV. Someone told me on an earlier arm chair that Chicago would never do this, but they just took Mikeyhev for 2 years at a more expensive price and literally the same production. If the Habs gave up a 2nd to do it, they would get a 4th or 5th back. I doubt Chicago would do it now because Mikehyev and I do not know if they want the space, but im doing it.
They need offensive talent so let's say they trade for Necas. There are 2 offers that would be good. Mailloux, Heineman, WPG Pick (26th), 3rd round pick (2025) for Necas and 4th round pick in 2025, OR, Matheson, Harris, Sean Farrell WPG pick (26th) for Necas and Carolina's 3 round pick this. Let's go with the 2nd one because I have done the first one before. Matheson is on a good contract and can be physical, skate well, and help the offense. Harris is young and cheap and offers term control, something Carolina needs and he is a good depth option if Nishin pushes through or anyone else. Farrell is a very good young talent, who has a ton of skill and point producing ability, and could be a nice piece down the line for Carolina. And of course a late 1st to top this off. Necas would be extended to a 6 year 7.5 AAV, similar to Cole and Nick's term remaining and AAV.
I still think they want to trade Barron too, but we will see. Reinbacher hopefully comes up near the end of the season, maybe Beck too, but all the good young talent will start in the AHL. Also, Buium won't sign yet, maybe he will, but he probs wants to go back to college for another year. The Habs can take a step forward again this year if they stay healthy and the youth continues to grow and develop well.
Drop Matheson, Harris and Farrell and thr 3rd and add Dach and I’d do it

Habs aren't trading Dach lol. The Canes want this young star, and all the teams interested have none or are highly unwilling to do that. Matheson is a need for you guys on D with the loss of Pesce, and maybe even Skjei, Harris is a cheap and very smart Dman who you have control of. Farrell is great, very talented and could be a 50-60 point guy one day. That 1st is great value to, maybe trade it for something else. We won't give you Dach. Both teams are trying to add from a position of strength. Makes total sense to me. Could see it happening.

I don’t know about that— I don’t think he’ll have much interest at the deadline. But with retention he’s $3.4 million for one year, and even if the Hawks buy him out that’s decent value.

No, he isn’t. We need a forward if we’re losing Necas. Orlov and Chatfield are taking over the spots of Pesce and Skjei to hold us over for this year before Nikishin comes next year.

Hawks fans have said NO when Habs fans trade Dvorak for a 2nd or 3rd from Hawks. Hawks fans repeatedly said he is a cap dump and need to be paid to take him. This takes care of that. Hawks say yes.
