NSH is desperate for RHD prospects, but why not just draft one with that 2nd and keep Kiiskinen? Trotz must really like Gibson.

Tbf, he looks good. But seeing such a young prospect traded as the main piece is uncommon, especially since nothing talks about him wanting out

6'3" physical defensive defenseman. He is exactly what Trotz said he was looking for. Kiiskinen likely didn't have a major shot with him playing RW and NSH having so many other RW's in front of him. Made more sense to move a piece that would have been considered a luxury for a piece that is more of a need.

So had to double check this, but Gibson was drafted one spot before we ended up taking Felix Nilsson last year, so I think Trotz probably wanted him last year.

Also Kiiskinen didn't have a good year at all, basically no real improvement and has yet to prove his game will translate against men. He only puts up numbers in underage leagues. Gibson at least improved relatively and projects as a shutdown Dman which Nashville is sorely lacking

Kiiskinen also hasn't been able to stick in Liiga, which I'm sure was a factor. As I think with all the production he's shown in underage leagues, it was expected he would make some strides towards playing better against men.

I see the math as Gibson was a 2nd Rd pick who improved as expected and Kiiskinen was an early 3rd with no real development. So you give Detroit a 2nd to take a prospect who's going to need more time to replace the 2nd they're losing in Gibson
