Why keep him when we just drafted Dickinson at #5? We would just move Guhle on the right since he didn’t look bad with Mathewson. We then get two cour pieces in Lindstrom/Dickinson by moving the extra valuable assets we already have.

You’re right for the Ottawa one. But you could get creative and pack up the #26 and #28 to move up back in the top 15.

You then could end up with Mailloux Sennecke/Eiserman and a 2nd for the guy at #7.

I don't see any team in the top 15 moving back for that package.

They could easily grab Stolberg or Jiricek with that pick. And if those two are gone with the rest of them, then there will be some really good forward options available.

At the end of the day they is basically a consensus top 3, likely top 10 and probably top 18. After that it seems the quality drops off quite a bit. Teams, especially the ones picking in those areas, have alot of quantity in their systems, they need more quality that you theoretically get with top picks. It doesn't make sense to trade down in alot of cases.

Would you trade #5 for 3 pieces, all of which likely to never be as good as the one at #5?

Ok

Still someone you want in your locker room?

he did his time for the crime, get over it, youthful indiscretions should not destroy a life.

Technically talking If you get offered something like

12th 18th and 26th for 3rd and you barely have prospects in your pool then yes you take it.

If the Pens get offered that they should take it.

And you could pack up 26th and 18th to move up to 10th.

No way, I keep 3rd overall. I'll take what should be the more guaranteed elite talent over a couple good players any day. Would you prefer Slaf (just using him as an example even though he went first overall but could have easily been 3rd and the fact he is on your team) or Mateychuk, Kemmell and Mesar? All could potentially be good players eventually but do they reach Slaf level?
If a team is picking 3rd, or top 5, possibly even top 10, they are probably a rebuilder. They may not have a good prospect pool, but say Pittsburgh like your referenced, will likely have many bad years ahead or else the team had a bunch of bad years and have alot of similar type of players.
It just doesn't make sense for most teams to do that.

Your entire argument is based on Mailloux being easily worth a top15 pick. He’s a solid prospect but he’s not gonna get that kind of return, especially when he hasn’t shown Jack at the NHL level. Proven NHL talent that play in teams top4 and top6 don’t go for top15 picks often.

Even if he was worth 15th overall that’s still not enough to move up. The value of 7th overall is worlds more value then you think it’s worth.

I would take Kemell Mateychuk and Lambert over Leo Carlsson or Logan Cooley.

Just by having those 3 your rebuild is 3 years ahead of time. You get depth and solid players that are going to have a significant impact on your team. You get more assets and you have more flexibility.

That would be by far the worst defense in hockey.

You have taken what is already the 2nd worst team defense, and added 3 players who have never played a single NHL minute, all not even old enough to drink.
