Aggressive RD Retool

Description
Tampa may not want to move Cernak, but they pretty clearly need to move someone with some significant salary to keep Stamkos. I think this is a very unlikely scenario overall, but it might be one of the better possible outcomes for the caps this summer.

  1. Cernak, Erik
  2. Jeannot, Tanner
Détails additionnels:
I know Cernak has a NTC - players waive NTCs all the time. McDonagh is the most recent and relevant example of someone who may not have really wanted to waive ending up waiving it. It's possible that Tampa moves a guy like Cernak so that they can afford to keep Stamkos. Caps also take on Jeannot. This frees up 7.8M for Stamkos, which should be more than enough.
TBL
  1. Suzdalev, Alexander
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (WSH)
Détails additionnels:
Caps take on full cap hits of Cernak and Jeannot, but they also give up the 17OA pick and a decent prospect in Suzdalev. Cernak would immediately be the perfect partner for Sandin and make the top 4 far more solid.

  1. Jensen, Nick
Détails additionnels:
Any team for any return. Jets need RHD, so maybe they'd take him. If the caps have to pay an asset to move him, it might be worth it to do that and give a guy like Walker a shot from UFA.

Jokes aside, lots of tampa fans are dumping Cernak for nothing... so I don't think it's incredibly unrealistic to think he could be moved. And the caps should absolutely be in on him if that's the case, although Ottawa makes a lot of sense too.

Cernak isn't going anywhere TB added Mack truck back because they were 23rd in GA so weakening their weakest position is just F***ING stupid. 27-81 back together again.

Every fan base has buffoons. TB was 23 in GA. So, go trade their best Rd for parts that won't help for a couple years at best brilliant!!!!! NOT REALLY!!

I'd happily take Cirelli on the Caps if this is the case and it honestly makes a lot more sense for the caps to do something like that. They're more focused on retooling their forwards.

We can definitely use an upgrade on the backend but top 6 scoring is far more important to add for this team and I dont think this adds enough

I like Duclair and Duchene as targets in a vacuum but I agree that there probably needs to be one bonafide top end addition - someone in the realm of Necas, Ehlers, Guentzel, Reinhart, or Marner. Duclair would have to have a career year and Duchene would have to be a point per game player for something like this to really catapult the caps into contender status.

Agree completely, I think duclair/duchene is more likely. I doubt we are going to be aggressive despite a rare amount of cap space for a successful retool
