In all seriousness, I feel this is a total win-win trade. Philly takes advantage of Winnipeg’s cap situation to get Pionk for free with the RFA rights to Logan Stanley.
The cap change is nearly 0, because Ellis isn’t on LTIR.
Flyers:
Pionk - Legit top 6 defenseman with offensive flair, physical snarl and isn’t normally bad defensively. Can play top 4 quality at peak and improve Philly’s Power play. Also, half retained he can fetch a decent return in the trade deadline. His weaknesses are that he is small, slow and makes erratic stretch passes.
Logan Stanley: 6’7, physical, has a good slap shot and showed good defensive capabilities late in the season. Would like to see how he plays under Torts. Could stick and be valuable for Philly. Weaknesses are that he is slow, can squander offensive zone cycles with a bad slapshot, not creative, takes many bad penalties.
Winnipeg:
Ryan Ellis - Assuming he will not return, I couldn’t find updates on his condition, it’s LTIR money, a necessary evil to both open up cap space and a roster spot for either Salomonsson or an acquired top 4 RD. (Dream scenario is Ellis comes back for the playoffs)
