No better place than his hometown who have demonstrated theyre on the brink and need a talented cup winning vet to help push them over the edge. He can try to cup chase but theres too much parody to be sure. Vegas was a lock last year now theyre bounced in the 1st round. Winnipeg was a lock in December they got bounced in the first round. Edmonton might get beat by an AHL goalie. Etc

Can you explain why Florida would consider trading Bennett? The guy is tough as nails and a bit of a unicorn in this league. He's also the right age for their group who are in their competitive window right now. Why would they trade any important roster player for an unproven prospect and a 2nd round pick?

While all that’s true,
there’s still plenty of better options that the Sabres
This past year, he chose a 1year deal with Detroit over a 2year offer (for more $$) from us

If he wouldn’t do a 2year deal here, he sure isn’t gonna do 3

I think there were other factors at the time, and that shows hes willing to go to a rebuilding team, Detroit had just as much a chance as the Sabres did last year, i dont think the book is closed

Cap hit. Theyre getting an NHLer on an elc back too. Theyre in their competitive window but that also means everyones getting a raise

All true, but Bennett is not the guy you trade. He brings everyone into the fight. The Panthers are gonna need defense, not forwards because Montour is as good as gone.
