I am tossing this out there to see if this could be a reset for both franchises.

Edmonton - obviously loses the best player in the trade. Draisaitl is one of the top players in the NHL and I would not want to lose him. Unfortunately, to make big improvements, you have to give something up. This would give the Oilers that top end goalie that they have been missing. Helly has been under fire after his performance against the Avs. I thought he kept them in that series. He gave up a couple of weak ones, but he made some big saves too. He just did not see 70% of the goals or they were tipped in.

I added Skinner going back as to balance out both rosters with a goalie going both ways. It was either Skinner or Campbell and that alone would have tossed this out.

The rest of the trade was to balance out both rosters. With Edmonton losing the best center in the trade, I wanted to send another center back. Lowry is a heart and soul type of player that the Jets would have a hard time parting with. However, I think they would consider it with getting Leon back.

Including Morrisey and Nurse.....well, this will be the part of the trade that will cause the most controversy. Nurse is signed to a long term deal and big money. He is a decent NHL defenseman, but not worth the money he is paid. Morrisey, on the other hand, is a stud. Smaller than most defensemen, but his lack of size is made up for with his skill. He is reliable on both ends of the ice.

Both teams would have a tough time giving up their stars. But, to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs.

Winnipeg is giving up too much cost and term certainly for year of Draisaitl and getting stuck with Nurse's awful, awful contract.

I can understand the thought from Edmonton's POV, it just doesn't work for Winnipeg. This just turns Winnipeg into the Oilers from a seasons ago, for one year.

Would you do it if Draisaitl had an extension attached? I have a weak spot for the Oilers and I live near Winnipeg, so I would love to see the Jets succeed too.

It would hurt on both sides. Hard to split up the dynamic duo of of McDavid and Draisaitl. Would love to see them win a Cup together. As a Jets fan, I would hate to see Helly go. He has been a rock back there. But, he could not withstand the Avalanche. Giving up a heart and soul guy like Lowry would be tough too. But, getting back a number 1 center that is a top 4 in the NHL makes it easier to take.

I tossed in the Morrisey/Nurse angle as what might be considered overkill. I just felt that a two for two without the defensemen involved would have been an overpayment by Edmonton. But, it would now be the other way if these two were involved. But, if the Jets were to somehow extend Draisaitl, would it really be overpayment to have a player of his caliber locked up for 6 or 7 years?

It's just far too much to give up for one player. Sure they'd have Draisaitl, but they'd be missing a starting goalie, their 1D and their captain. It gives Winnipeg one really good player, but overall makes the team far, far weaker.

It's a team game, Draisaitl can't compensate for the pieces Winnipeg loses.

I completely understand. Just wondered whether or not someone in the Jets front office might have the appetite to doing something like this. For the longest time, it looked like there was going to be a big reset last summer before they resigned Scheiffle and Helly.
