Toronto gets their missing piece, a bona fide 1RD with a championship pedigree coming off a fantastic season (the Athletic rates Doughty's value at $12m), while staying even in cap space.

Boston might just have the scariest first line in the league with Marner dishing to Pasta; in the end, when you acquire the best player in a trade, you usually will come out on top. Losing the younger of their two stud goalies hurts, but adding Gavrikov makes up for losing Grzlecyk in UFA.

LA gets its goalie of the present and future in Swayman and makes up for having to buy out PLD by adding the veteran C Coyle, who can play throughout the middle 6 for the Kings.

Then the Kings also replenish its D corps by signing 3 defensive defensemen to identical $4.5x4 contracts and thrusting the rookie Clarke into the spotlight. Free of PLD's albatross contract, they also have enough wiggle room to sign Byfield to a massive $8.5x8 contract and bring back fan favorite Toffoli on a team-friendly deal to bring a touch of pure scoring to the top 6. The acquisition of Coyle also allows Danault to slide down into the more natural 3C spot. A change-of-scenery trade swaps Kaliyev for Wahlstrom, who is joined by fellow youngsters Laferriere, Thomas, and Turcotte in the bottom 6.

Aside from the fact that they are getting a ton of value back, there's no reason for BOS to trade Swayman as he was the MVP for them. That being said Marner is not filling a major need for them and there are other ways they can add a top 4 D.

No way the Leafs consider this, they are getting an aging star defender for their mid-aged superstar who ends up going to a division rival.

Yeah, I think BOS will still look to add to their D-core if possible, but since it's not a major need, it won't be at the expense of Swayman. If Bussi forces his way onto the roster, or they make a move prior to that I think Ullmark is sent packing. I could see Boston trading for Chychrun or signing someone via FA depending on how much cap they have left.

The only reason to move Coyle would be to make space for a legit 1C.
