Seattle passes. Depletes their farm system. Firkus and Rehkopf were specifically drafted for their scoring prowess after the Kraken's year 1 and lack of scoring. Also way to much to give up for 1 year of Marner.

Obviously the problem for the Leafs in the playoffs has been Mathews, not Marner, as the team seems to be playing lights out without him

That's fair. Id think Marner extends though otherwise I'd totally agree. Toronto would sign then trade. I should have made that clear.

Maybe add some of what was traded to Pittsburgh, or Steeves. You still have sale, you still have Wright. Your upper echelon young talent is still there. To be fair you guys just have so much young talent I think you can afford to make this move without feeling the I'll effects as much as others.

If Marner extends what would be your thoughts then?

I think the problem is much more than just one of them. Nylander is the only one that constantly shows in pressure situations

Even if it's a sign and trade I don't think Seattle is the dance partner for Marner. Every trade I have seen on ACGM just creates another roster problem for Seattle. The two main things they need right now are a 4th center (Beniers, Wright, Gourde, mystery skater), and scoring. A trade for Marner would probably mean at least a $5M contract going to Toronto and while I know Larsson and Oleksiak get floated I don't think it's either of them. That would leave Burakovsky (Been great when healthy, just hasn't been healthy in Seattle), Tanev, and Bjorkstrand. Ideally it would be Burakovsky but there are so many red flags there. The Kraken are closer to finally having a deep prospect pool but I think there is still a reluctance to trade much of that in a deal.

That would put the deal at something like:
Marner (sign and trade)
Timmins

Burakovsky
Borgen
Firkus
Morrison
2024 3rd Round pick (TML)

Even that doesn't seem balanced. Between Rehkopf, Firkus, Goyette, and Morrison you have 4 of the teams top 10 prospects. Draft wise that was 3 2nd's and a undrafted 20yo.

But I also am not sure that RF makes any moves until he has a new coach in place. Doesn't make sense to trade for something that doesn't fit in the new coaches schemes.

All logical points, but to be fair it's not like you don't get anything in return. You get a first round defensemen who is just an RFA, a replacement for Shultz, and an elite star... which is the one thing your roster completely lacks.

You need that if you want to get to the next level. You can't guarantee Bernie's or wright makes that leap... and even still you keep them here.

You currently have all the depth, the goalie, the prospects, but no star. Our of all of what you need to win, you don't need prospects. You only need that to sustain winning. With the depth of the kraken bring , at their ages, they are win now, you can trade for Marner and get to the next level. With wright, Bernie's, sale, Dunn, you have the pieces to continually stay there. Even Marner isn't old.

Getting an elite player isnt free. If you want to give up cap, give someone like gourde or tanev. Or get a 3rd team to get burkies. Sharks .. Hawks.. whoever... But for what you get, and how hard it is to find an elite player, the prospects are so minor in my opinion. Even if its 4/10. For a multi time 90 point guy is absolutely pennies.

The way I see it, is as Borgden for Lily, and Marner for those 4. Timmins is a bonus and replaces Shultz. Seattle mitigates the cap problem.

Considering you get Marner and we get what ifs. I'd think that's even
