Before you say anything, just look at the lineup and the combinations.
I think this has the potential to be one Hell of a team top to bottom.
The stumbling block in all of it would obviously be getting Konecny as part of the Philly deal.

Not bad actually. I think it would take more to get Duclair though, picks would need upgrading for sure, or maybe include a prospect in the deal.

Pretty fair trade with Philly IMO, I don't think they will retain that much salary though, if any.

The salary retention amount makes the move a wash contract wise for both teams. Plus I think if Philly really did look at offers to move Giroux they're going to have to retain salary regardless where they move him. That's why I used the dollar amount I did.

As for Duclair, it's been rumored ARI isn't that high on him after the disappointing season last year and may be open to moving him out. I think that line of Bennett-Konecny-Duclair could grow together and really be something special for years to come.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

I get what you're saying, but the salary retention tips the scale to much in Calgary's favor. No salary retention by Philly would make this more even I'd say.

As far as Duclair goes, even if they are down on him, a 7th round pick has essentially no value and a 4th is marginal value at best. That's why I think you'd need to give up a bit more to get him. Even after a bad year he still has more value than a 4th round pick IMO.

Honestly, I think Simmonds is much more valuable than Giroux at this point. I was once a huge fan of Giroux as well, but his underlying numbers have been trending the wrong way the past two seasons even though he gets to share the ice with Voracek, Simmonds, etc. most of the time. He's also a franchise icon (and captain) in PHI, plays center, and gets called up to Team Canada, so Hextall probably wouldn't talk about him in a deal.

I thought about it when looking at Gaudreau's value to PHI, but couldn't see them moving Giroux and leaned towards Simmonds / Konecny. I will note that the Giroux contract with retained salary is very interesting. Would give CGY insane depth at center, especially if we had an injury to either of Monahan or Backlund during the season or playoffs.

Re: Duclair -- agree with the other comments that ARI will definitely want more. They've got some better talent in the lineup this season, plus have some developing young guys who should be better. A team would likely have to pay above fair value to get Duclair, otherwise ARI will be happy to hold him and try him in different spots in the lineup to try to increase his trade value. Decent "buy low" candidate though, so I like what you're thinking.

TLDR: Go back to the Simmonds / Konecny deal for Gaudreau, and then offer a 4th rounder plus a prospect (Wotherspoon? Rittich?) in the Duclair deal and you're getting closer to a great squad.
