I mean this is all just speculation and I think if this was done with any player on any team the fans of the team would not go for it without an overpay but trades like this do happen look the deal for dach or even the mark stone trade to vegas it can happen espically when the team doesnt like player or when the players value is really which seems to be zegras's situation right now

Yes, some teams make stupid mistakes. Verbeek has shown himself to be very rational and competent. So this is a no-brainer decline, which is why you’re getting that reaction universally.

You didn’t need to post this for that feedback either btw. There are probably between 500-750 MTL ACGMs from the past few months with some version of this trade with the same point-of-view being shared ad nauseum

I agree but it doesnt always happen that way

Do you not see why this logic is lacking?

In that case we’ll take Caufield for Lacombe and a ‘26 first.

Oh it’s not an attractive return? But teams make bad trades all the time

Bad teams do make bad trades and no the return is not attractive but there have also never been rumors about caufield getting traded zegras on the other hand has had plenty of rumors and if Anaheim wants to trade him there must be reason so that will lower his value if you look at the pld trade from last year LA gave way too much even with everything surrounding him and it came back to bite them so if zegras is on the market Id be willing to make a trade for him but im not going to overpay

The rumors were debunked the moment actual reporting was done. The rumor was “The Ducks traded Drysdale who was friends with Zegras, and they now have lots of centers. Maybe they’d trade Zegras”

The moment actual reporting was done it was determined:
“Verbeek has never shopped Zegras nor brought his name up in a single trade discussion”.

The rumor began by the same reporter who definitively said Gibson played his last game for ANA after last season.

I might as well write an article myself saying MTL would trade caufield and then we can have this discussion the other way around? Happy to revisit Lacombe and a ‘26 1st for him. Farfetched idea? Trust me, Ducks fans can relate. Maybe we see that proposal come up 500+ times as if there’s something new to talk about the 501st time as well

Sorry if I’m chippy; this is just silly at this point. Really mind blown people think there’s still something to talk about here
