Kinda, as a Tampa fan I know we aint winning in the next couple of years, I rather get what I can for Stamkos while improving the defence for years to come.

Even if you were you couldn't without Stamkos saying yes and he's made it more than clear that's not happening.

I have to imagine Calgary will get a bit more for Hanafin, but I can see this happening if there aren't better options

Agreed, I would just not pay more than this if I was in BriseBois shoes.

it's definitely within the realm of possibility, but with 5 or so teams on him I bet someone beats this by a 2nd or 3rd

Stamkos isn't going anywhere, but even if he was you're not maximizing his value if you're not retaining on him.
For my franchise centerman I'd expect a better player with a much higher ceiling than Ryan McLeod coming back. If you retain on him you can expect something equivalent to a Giroux package coming back with a player like Tippett + the picks.

I understand where you are coming from byt I disagree. I don't see us trading Stamkos either but as a lighting fan, it would be unfortunately the best thing to do. Also, Owen Tippett was NOT a good player when he was traded. I know he had a high ceiling but Ryan McLeod is a known player. We are getting a 1st, a 2nd and a solid 3rd line center.

The issue is we don't need a known 3rd line center if we're selling, it doesn't help and a 3C isn't the immediate priority for this team. We have too many bottom six forwards on the squad as is to the point where people are trying to justify Conor Sheary can play in the top six on this website. Tippett at 22 was still a raw player when he was traded in the package for Giroux, sure, but his ceiling is panning out quite nicely right now in Philly at 25 more than McLeod's is in Edmonton at 24. But if we're selling, then we're selling. It's pointless to remove scoring, then add Hanifin to a team that's now lacking two legitimate top six scoring options and now no first round pick.

Point (45.3%), Cirelli (48.8%), Paul (54.1%) and Glendening (55,6%) plus Stamkos (53.1%) do their job in the dot just fine but could always be better. If you're adding McLeod for depth scoring (we need that too), then sure it's fine I guess, so be it, but there are cheaper options like Barabanov or Duclair available that doesn't involve trading our captain or a player from the top six. Giving up a scorer like that when we have a need to add one actively being in contention for a wildcard spot isn't the right idea.

Big difference he could have not brought the subject up. Also could've just said I'm not going anywhere in a non-committal type way ,but he made the very definitive statement I guarantee..
If you've listened to him speak and paid attention over the last 15 years he chooses his words purposely.

The way I look at it, we are not making a deep run this year. Might as well trade our declining star player before it's not late. Watching Stamkos playing this year as been hard, on the powerplay he is amazing but at 5 on 5 it's something else. By trading him, we don't fix anything now but at least we help the future of this team. We basically get McLeod and Hanifin for Stamkos. 2 younger players that could be with this team for a while. Hanifin would solidify our defence for years and McLeod would really help depth scoring. Also, Hedman is not getting younger.
