When a good young player who has a very low cap hit and an extra season, and on top of that expires as an RFA is available, and they fit your biggest need, I think you should be willing to overpay for it, I'd actually be willing to move even more if needed. Unless there is some horrible fit in terms of him being too much of an east west player, I find him to be far and away the most attractive target, even more than Zegras or Mittelstadt due to his contract.
Seeler I think would be the perfect Johnson upgrade, the deal would still be good without him, but improving defensive depth is a luxury that won't hurt.
They wouldn't even need to dump Johansen to make this move, however if you can, and add another player I think it would be worth it, although I'd imagine he'd be cheaper to move in the offseason, so maybe holding onto him as center depth is not the worst option.
Joey Anderson could be replaced with any good bottom 6 addition, he has solid underlying numbers, but his nhl edge data suggests he is not the fastest, so maybe there is a better fit out there, but adding insurance so we aren't completely relying on two very old vets would be worthwhile imo.
I think most Avs fans are selling low on Byram already like they tried to do with Girard, but there's no reason to do it imo, I think they have the assets to buy, without giving up Byram or Ritchie. Be patient with him, he's been much healthier, and we know how good he can be. He can be a series changer, and I don't think any other teams have that on their 3rd pair.
Or the Hawks just accept as proposed. Either way works. With Dach and Slaggert in the pipeline, Anderson probably has one more season in Chicago at the most.
