- there are a bunch of different ways the rangers could go about the deadline. i believe this would be the lowest "risk" for the award of still improving the team
- robertson is second in line for a rangers d spot, and he is not passing jones. him + a third (and a late round pick swap) is an even deal for nyr and the yotes
as for the trade with the caps, this is more of an insurance move. lindy always gets hurt so this is more for insurance or if someone begins to struggle. although jones has shown flashes, you don't want to be stuck relying on him or some ahl guys (harpur, mackey) to fill this for the playoffs
- obviously nyr could go a different route (more or less risk), but i believe this would be the "safe" route if they plan to go for something similar. you could swap the trade with the caps with a bunch of other teams
