Suzuki is a great piece, but there needs to be more. Whether that is MTLs 2024 first instead or another prospect

I meant to put the 2024 MTL 1st, not the 2025

I think MTL is out
Pettersons great, dont get me wrong
But Suzuki's our Guy, Our Iron Man. . .I just dont see it happening

IMO i see us Offer Sheeting him and leaving Suzuki out of it.
It'll cost us a 2025 1st , 2025 2nd ,2025 3rd and a 2026 1st to OS him at 9.5m to 10.5m x5 years
If VAN matches , Great . . . Not sure it sounds like its what Petterson wants but thats their problem
IF VAN doesnt match then MTL gives up key pieces during a rebuild where we still havent found our Goalie but hope its Fowler who's the NCAA's #1 Goalie by quite a bit as a Rookie but 2-3 years away. So those 1sts are likely to be anywhere from 6thOA to 20thOA

Remember VAN wants to re-sign Pettersson but he wont sit down and commit
They fear him signing OS after his deal expires thats why they're looking at whats out there.

Realistically though, Petty is not signing an offer sheet that he knows VAN can easily match. It would prob take a 1 year 15 mil offer-sheet to make him sign it

Why not Kotkanemi did , we just chose not to
I mean 1 year at 6.1m was enough for us to walk away ?
No , he didnt want to be here so MTL let him go

Petterson doesnt seem to enjoy the revolving door in VAN
Their Ownership is horrid and jumps the gun destroying systems and rebuilding them before anyone can get established.
He could win a cup in VAN this year and while he may re-sign i doubt there would be term as he's 1 season from being a UFA anyways
I'd say this is his farewell tour

Whether that means Money is his main focus or not , im not sure
But if MTL wanted him to sign with us as a UFA a 10.5m x 1 year OS would do that
If VAN matches it walks him right into Free Agency without any hassles or obligations.
If they dont match MTL runs the risk of paying 10.5m and two 1sts ,2nd and a 3rd for him to walk into Free Agency
Or MTL could view it as a year to convince him to sign at the current 10.5m with Term

There's risks and rewards but the gamble gives us 1 year of Suzuki and Petterson as our top 6 Centers in any scenario.

Pettersson is never signing for 9.5 lol. And if he did VAN immediately matches it without hesitation.

That was all covered above
Win Win Win no matter what for MTL
No scenario where i'd view the effort as unproductive outside you giving Term to someone unwilling to sit down and negotiate a deal with you
With Kotkanemi once he signed the OS we didnt want a player who just facilitated his own trade around you.

I like the just OS 10.5 x 1 year to walk him into UFA status as the best move though
Regardless of how things turn out we're the guys who got him to his Full Contract Control removing the obstacles for him
Something most people might remember during their next contract search

If you think the EP situation is comparable to The KK situation I have bad news. Notice how the Hurricanes matched the Aho sheet? That's all that would happen. Besides no GM is offersheeting Pettersson just to screw the Canucks over.
