I just think the next 2-4 years is our best chance at the cup and Nelson gives us a better shot than Ritchie most likely will. His value rn very well could be the highest it ever will be and I think cashing in for a 35-30 center gives us the best chance over the next 2 years. With a 3 mil elite 2C I’d be surprised if we don’t win another cup. Especially if landy is able to return these playoffs or next season at 80 percent the player he was

That's a "bet the farm" kind of move you don't often see with a club right in the middle of it's window. You're basically calling for the Avs to go all in right now and then more-or-less punt for the rest of Mac, Rants and Makar's careers. It's not that I don't see the logic in this approach, I just think it's super risky; if Nelson does well, he'll probably want another decent size contract the Avs can't afford. And if it doesn't work, the Avs are pretty much out of bullets to spend with no help coming. That isn't to say waiting for Ritchie isn't without risk but he would have a longer period where he'd be under team control. IMO, this is the kind of move you make when the window is about to close but I understand where you're coming from.

Avs decline both trades and Washington almost certainly declines as well.

I would love Brock, but he's the Islander's leading goal scorer rn and they aren't rebuilding, and the cap is a real mess next season if landy comes back. and with each passing week, seems like he's coming back

Isles can't retain on Nelson if they're moving him.



If Lou decides to retool (not rebuild), Nelson is the first to go since he has the most value. He'll likely go for picks/prospects, but those can be used in another deal for a retool.

I don't think we have what you'd need in the case of a retool, and i'm not sure we can afford his cap without retention as 2C
