Description
Flames fans- regardless of how good Markstrom has been this year, this is more than a fair enough offer for him. TBH, I don't agree with moving Holtz for Markstrom at all, but if we were to do that, then Conroy should absolutely be retaining on this deal. I think the Devils should center their trade around Seamus Casey and this years first round pick. I wouldn't even care if Vanecek didn't go the other way

No one is saying it's not a fair offer, it is, there's just not incentive for Calgary to do it. They have a blue chip prospect in net and a goalie to shelter the hell out of him if they so choose. Wolf has proven nothing at the NHL level yet and until he does the Flames should not throw him into the fire with Vladar. Unless the pros seriously outweigh the cons Calgary has no reason to make the deal.

This is absurd! That’s a massive overpay for an aging goalie who is having one last good season.

I think CGY is already past that point in terms of their thinking. James Nichols already reported that they approached Markstrom about waiving his NTC and he approved. If there wasn't a retention issue, this deal would be done already. CGY seems to be comfortable parting with Markstrom and running with Wolf/Vanecek/Vladar for the next few years. Where are you guys really going these next few years? Let's be honest

Oh I agree. Unfortunately, Fitzy didn't make our move in the summer and now he's gonna overpay to stabilize our net for the next few years

I was told he was having one last good season in 2021-22?? Can you confirm where you read this is his last good season?

Nichols put that out pre trade breakdown, you could see people in the Devils fan base all ridicule that Nichols is a hack and will throw anything out there. Serivalli did the same thing but he also said a couple weeks ago that a source really close to Dube said that his leave was not because of the 2018 World Junior team. The reporters that try get ahead of the story are always trying to be the first to scoop something and they're often wrong. LeBrun was on Insider Trading yesterday and confirmed that Calgary has not approached Markstrom to waive his NMC. Calgary shouldn't be comfortable running Vladar and Wolf out there, they have similar numbers, Vladar should be gone already but he's strapped with a terrible contract, Wolf has proven nothing in the NHL and the Flames don't have the roster to bottom out. Doesn't matter where they are going in the next couple years, they can't create a losing culture or you end up with decade long rebuilds like Edmonton, Ottawa and Buffalo.

Personal assumption. Goalies especially larger goalies don’t tend to age well (that’s a lot of wear and tear on those knees) but in all honesty No one really knows! hell I thought when Pavelski signed that 3 year 21 mil deal with Dallas it wasn’t going to end well, 5 years later wondering when they are going to announce his 3rd 1 year extension for 24/25 lol. So what do I know!

To be fair he was never fast or very agile so aging was never gonna be a big issue, but how the hell do you have your career season at 38?
When he left the sharks, I thought he was a good good player but his time with Dallas has made me think he’s Hall of Fame worthy
