Could be off for sure but to say the better player is a stretch and a half to make yourself feel better.

There's zero chance of that Noah Hanifin trade being the winning bid.

And no Conroy isn't retaining on Mangiapane when he has another year left on his contract. He sure wouldn't do it with Jacob Markstrom.

I don't think they're retaining on Markstrom because there's zero need to get rid of him, if a team wants to pony up huge it starts the conversation, if not then they just hold onto him. I am in a different camp with Mangiapane and I think he doesn't fit how the roster slots very well, I think if they could get anything of value for him in other parts of the roster it's worth making the deal with retention. Unfortunately I know you're right about the ownership and retentions!

So saying I don't want to trade even Cuylle for Mangiapane even one for one isn't telling enough, then what is it you want to hear?
I like Cuylle as a hockey player more than Mangiapane. I like him more for what he brings.

Which would be...... worse defensive metrics? Worse possession numbers? More OZone starts? Less scoring?

22 year old rookie, cost controlled on a team where every penny matters.
top 5 in hits, will have 25+ points playing 11 minutes a night with zero special teams.
      he is only getting better.

he may not be the "better" player today, but will be the better player long term.

Morgan Frost and Sean Walker!? Gross, no 🤮

Walker Sucks. He’s a 3rd pairing D-man at best. Sure he had a good start to the season but did you forget about how he’s played since then and when he played with LAK!?

If Torts doesn’t like Frost’s play then I don’t either

Zary at 4C!? None of your moves would be good AFAIC

Size, physicality, not costing 5 mil a year. Toughness. Etc. You do not have to like him. I'm fine with that 👌

There it is! I definitely think he has more upside, I just didn't know if he was a fit for a team trying to take the next step for a team that is outside of the top 10 in GF. I definitely don't think it's a deal made mid season but I think the Flames try shop Mangiapane around and I would like the fit in New York where he would get fed top 6 minutes with more talented players. Mangiapane at less than $3M is a sweet heart deal but I would have a hard time seeing the Flames retain.

Frost is a perfect buy low candidate in a position the Flames are really shallow and old. Walker has severely outperformed Tanev this season, and stats from the last three seasons are not glaringly different. He's top 10 in the league in limiting high danger chances against per 60 right now and anchors a pairing with a mistake prone Kylington/Poirier/Brzustewicz. Direct Tanev replacement that blocks less shots and that's about it.

Sounds like Tortorella and Frost have a really healthy professional relationship and a coach wanted more out of a young guy that he's not getting...

Agian, shallow and old at C, if they can transition one of their wingers to C for when Backlund is gone and Kadri is declining it should be Zary because he drives play better than Sharangovich, Pelletier, Pospisil, Coronato etc. etc.

I’m on board for bringing in a Young Centre, but let’s look at FLA’s Lundell or Luostarinen

Still not sold on Frost or Walker though, sorry

Might as well just put Zary or Pospisil at 2/3C over Frost, especially if we bring Faksa back in a Trade. He can play 4C. If we’re doing a deal with DAL maybe we can ask for Bourque. I don’t mind Dellandrea as a Young Player or Arcuri as a Prospect either

How could you justify Pospisil anywhere as a middle 6 C? As of now he's a good additional piece to a line but so was Walker Duehr last season. Zary can fill a bottom 6 C role and play on the powerplay, even as of now the line of Pelletier, Rooney, Duehr is night and day from what was there for the start of the season, having an effective 4th line where a young kid is sheltered at C would work fine

Pospisil is more of a 3rd line player, but his speed and superior defensive play make him an intriguing Centre option

He’s already used more on faceoffs than Zary and has proven to be better at them too. I think he’d be an ideal disrupter and create more space for Huberdeau & Kuzmenko (or Sharangovich, Mangiapane, etc.) than Zary who should stick with Kadri given their chemistry together

Reducing Zary’s TOI by putting him on the 4th line seems counterintuitive to me, but I guess that depends on what kind/style of 4th line you’re running. Pelletier-Zary-Pospisil/Duehr/Greer playing 10-12mins per night might not be a bad Young Guns/Energy line. This said, recent reports are saying the Flames lack of Physicality is being exposed and is of some concern
