Dowd = 1st
Marty = 1st

Don't think you'll be getting both for that package. Plus don't think Caps would trade Marty,

Agree Caps are unlikely to move Fehervary, that's why it's titled ideal.

But a first for Dowd, in this economy?

The Ducks are asking for a 2nd and two 3rds for Henrique with retention this year and next.

My POV is Timmins + 1st for Fehervary and a 3rd + Niemala (who's worth a 2nd or 3rd) for Dowd

It's already been reported that Dowd is getting a 1st. Makes sense since Goodrow got the same just 4 years ago. Similar players and contract, but Dowd is better.

If that 1st was guaranteed to be a good one for Marty then maybe, but otherwise doubt it.

Plus a 2026 1st doesn't really help the Caps...Ideally, it would be a 2024 1st or 2025 1st

Goodrow is a good comp here, have to take into consideration that a 3rd went to Tampa with Goodrow though. So I think it's similar value

Groodrow also had the same term left at a lower AAV.

Don't doubt the asking price for Dowd is a first right now, my thinking is that will come back down to earth as we get closer to deadline day.

The only way it would help is if you are banking on the TOR to continue on a downward trend, then that pick could be a great, but doubt it with all that talent.

My thinking was a 2026 first lines up almost exactly with the end of Ovechkin's career when the Caps have a better idea of their direction.

Agree a 2024 1st is more valuable and could sweeten it here though.

Dowd is a better player than Henrique at this point in his career and will come out cheaper

I'm not sure if you are trolling but what is your rationale behind that?

Henrique has more points in 51 games this year (35) than Nic Dowd's career high, and both players are the same age. Henrique also has a higher faceoff percentage this season.

Dowd beats out Henrique in hits and blocked shots, in fewer games.

Willing to hear an argument that he is a marginally better defensive player but to say he is a better player overall than Henrique is borderline blasphemous.

Minten, and a 1st at least with topi most likely. You’re asking for two players the caps have absolutely no reason to trade without very good return. Both have term left and Marty has multiple years left and would be a rfa after. Marty alone is a 1st+ especially for a relatively low 1st that TOR will have

Dowd cost 1.3 mil and Henrique costs close to 6 mil for 50% more points. Dowd is one of the most elite pkers and is amazing 4th C easily 3C with term left after this season at again 1.3 mil which is very valuable when you’re so top heavy

Look at any advanced statistic and Dowd is a top 10 defensive forward in the league. He does all of that at "4c" while playing with quite frankly below replacement level teammates and against team's top lines every single night. Don't get me wrong, Henrique is a good player and certainly not a liability on defense but Dowd is not just "marginally better" defensively. As for scoring, when you look at it as Henrique's 22 5v5 points to Dowd's 15, there's a difference but not as big as it initially seems -- especially when you take in the fact Henrique is playing almost a full 2.5 minutes more per game and has been playing with guys like Carlsson and Terry instead of exclusively Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel.

Combine that with the fact that he's making 1.3M with no retention and has an extra year on top of this, and I think it's very reasonable to say that Dowd is a better and more valuable player. Goodrow, Foligno, and Coleman have all gotten 1sts in previous years. The Caps themselves just got 2nds last year for Eller and Hathaway. Do I think it's a first is an absolute locked-in return? No. Is it very reasonable to be asking for that? Absolutely.
