Would Hugues play for Zegras

Description
ANA fans won't like this, but that's the only play I would give to ANA for Zegras. I don't see how ANA are over asking for a player they seem to have given up the towel on at 22 years old. If the argument of a rebuild comes in, I'll just respond with a "he's 22... you rebuild with young players... so..." I think it's the attitude, I don't see Hugues overpaying for Zegras.

I'm guessing another team will want to over pay, maybe Philly who got crapped on by a freaking 0 games played player. They may over pay at this point.

**Some may see my move to bring in Reinbacher, even if he's in Europe right now, the reason I put him there is that there are talks they may bring him in as soon as his season ends in order to develop him properly in MTL or Laval. - Most probably in Laval, but you never know.. His size may make him jump now to see his current skills.

***Avs Fans, before you judge the Girard move, read the trade info, I think the AVS would look to get another hard hitting defensman with the room they just got from the Habs, plus the ability to trade out their own 2nd pick again. They have lots of players becoming UFAs again this year, and trading out 5M$ vs 1.925M$ gives them more room to get going for another cup run next year.
Transactions

MTL
  1. Zegras, Trevor
Détails additionnels:
ANA seem ready to move from Zegras; Is this enough? I thin other teams will be playing this out, but given they receive 2 RHD, Beck and picks plus Pearson to help end the season with support for the younger guys. I think this would be the only available play for a player who's not been up to par with his attitude and defensive skills.
ANA
  1. Beck, Owen
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. Kovacevic, Johnathan
  4. Pearson, Tanner
  5. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (MTL)
  6. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (MIN)
Détails additionnels:
*1st is a conditional pick; If Habs get top 5; then ANA have the choice of the best of the two 2025 1st rounds picks they have, plus PITT's 2025 2nd round pick
2.
MTL
  1. Beaucage, Alex
  2. Girard, Samuel
Détails additionnels:
AVS trade out Girard and his cap hit, with Beaucage but get in return their own 2nd draft pick and Allen with retention.

This also bring in another move from AVS to trade for a bigger Defenseman somewhere else, get a very reliable 2nd goalie for this year, and a posssible chip in the offseason to trade out if they wish.
COL
  1. Allen, Jake (1 925 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
Habs get a home player, and a home prospect; for Allen and a 2nd pick.

Where is the evidence we've thrown the towel in on him? Frank Seravalli is the source of all Zegras rumors, and the guy has the same track record of being right about Anaheim as I do scoring with Victoria's Secret models.

He still has a better track record than you. Like all of the guys who work the beat for rumors etc, they do hits and miss, but they provide info from what they hear around the league. None of them actually say "It's a done deal, X Player is on the market and will be dealt!" unless it's something that is known, like the Monahan trade, we all knew it was coming, but it wasn't a secret that he'd be dealt to a competing team.

If he indicated that Zegras is on the market, it's because someone has called in, look at, or ANA are looking to trade him. We all know the contract negotiations were not great, so this may be something the GM isn't too keen on keeping around the team. Maybe a return is a good thing for them to look at.

Asking for evidence, then literally indicating "Frank Seravalli is the source" is basically answering your own question.. And yes he hits more rumors than you getting a K-Mart model.. Like he posts, these are rumors going around. Doesn't mean he'll be traded, doesn't mean he won't.. Just means there have been talks and that's it.

Imo Girard is easily the Avs 3rd best D atm. He’s not someone you move to free up cap for a backup goalie and depth pieces (appreciate your explanation though) Hell, i would be more inclined to move Byram than Girard at this point (not saying that i would like to trade either).

The point of this was to free up cap space, to get someone with more grit and defensive hard hitting than Girard to go for it again. Girard is good, but has you say their 3rdm even 4th top 4... They would need someone then can do a bit more. If there is a player out there we don't know about who could help them, I would move GIrard. Habs seem to be on the tendency to bring back QC natives, so I would think this would be a play possible for both team.. Keeping in mind they have a possible trade happening for another DMAN.

Keep in mind that Girard isn't a 1st pick type of player, and is making 5M$/year for 4 more. So he's not going to get much in return. To get Allen at half price, and their 2nd round pick for 2024, this gives them opportunities to have depth between the posts, and a pick to keep, or trade add to another trade.

Just a thought..

Using a top 10 pick on a replacement level defense player whos never had 70 point seems like a bad investment.

He is always going to be a guy who you cant rely on as a top line player because he cant play against other teams best lines. He will and already does get destroyed.

Atleast with somepne like Catton or helenius even if they they end up as a 50ish point guy they can atleast be versatile enough to not have to shelter like crazy

... you know he's freaking 22 years old right? You know that players of his style don't become more responsible defensively before the age of 24 right?

Not every guy can play defensively right off the bat in the NHL. This is all tied to coaching and player's acceptance of their style and ability to get convinced that they need to improve certain aspects. As they get more experienced, as they get a bit older, they tend to stop relying on just their offensive skills and start looking at how they play. Otherwise, the team will put them with more defensive style players and let them have their go at it.

But to say he'll always be this or that.. He's 22... He's got 2 to 3 years of development still to go. The only reason I see fit that ANA would trade him out, would be because of the contract negotiations that happened to add strain to the org.. If they can get a 1st round pick, a couple of good prospects and an experienced player, would they think about it? I'm not talking about my trade, just from any other team that would put their assets on the table.

As for mine, I think Beck, Harris, Kovacevic, a first and a veteran in Pearson would be the assets Habs would put out there for him. Not saying it would get him, just saying it's what I'd give..

Habs easily pass on that holy.

They are not giving up their top 10 pick for him.

The guy is 22 years old.. Hugues is looking for a young team that can grow together. They have enough players to help grow the ANA blue line, and that pick wouldn't be an issue if they get top 5. From 6 to 10.. Why not? between the 6th and 15th pick, there are not much difference based on your needs when you have the current prospects list that will come out for 2024 Draft.

Zegras is 22 years old.. Given the chance to improve his game could potentially make him better defensively and become the player he was expected to in the next 2-3 years which is what Hugues seems to be looking forward to. Hell, he traded a 1st round for Dach... He's a skilled player, great center and very good in both aspects of the game... when he plays.. Why not trade for another young player who can play C?

That is all speculation at this point. Let's see if ANA actually want to move him out.
