The Maple Leafs should go to this years TDL to a buyer to improve their chances for a deep playoff run.
Imo there are two positions i would focus on: a right shot top 4 defenseman and an energetic depth winger with some scoring upside
With the current roster (Murray still on LTIR) minus these two openings they are left with 3,15 mil in Cap Space for the rest of this season.
Target 1: Right shot top 4 defenseman
With Liljegren and Timmins being their current right shot options on defense (+ Brodie playing on the right) i think this is the roster spot the Maple Leafs can improve the most on. Losing Klingberg due to injury opens up a spot for a puck moving d-man, but they could also use a player with a more defensive minded skillset here. Imo a two-way-defenseman like Walker would be the ideal fit here, but there are other options based on the market possibilities. As the main trade i would wager the trade around the leafs 2024 1st (+ more futures/- a pick in return for a "cheaper" player)
Other options: Tanev (shutdown), Schultz (offensive minded), Dumba, Carrier, Fabbro (two-way guys)
Target 2: Forward depth
With all their high end talent up front, i would still like to see Toronto add some more hard working forward depth, ideally in a player that can also give you some kind of depth scoring. A package of a mid tier prospect/ a lower round draft pick should be able to give you a fine addition here
Other options: Boyd, Armia, Blais, Kunin
