The cap might be 75m but still. Does SS sign for "only" 7.7. Helm makes 2.125m now and you expect him to take just 1.5m, the possible high scoring Pukkinen will likely get more than 1m. Abdelkader might make more than 4m a year, and bonuses for these RFAs haven't been included. Still you have a roster of just 20 players. Highly unlikely that Detroit has the money to sign Stamkos.

Stamkos wants the cup, he takes a "cut rate" contract for a couple years to win back to back cups. Helm has been plagued by injuries and plays 3rd/4th line minutes, if he wants to win another cup with the wings he will need to take a pay cut to do so, otherwise AA is called up and given helm's position. Pulkkinen is getting a bridge contract with a $265,000 raise. Abdelkader is giving the hometown discount AND making more than double his previous contract.

I prefaced this post with the *FANTASY LAND* heading for a reason, but I still think this could be done in the real world. it would be tough, and if it doesn't pay off with at least one Stanley cup in Motown it would be considered a bust . . . but it would be a helluva fun ride . . .
