Other teams have offered better and if this were the offer, I would rather the blues hold onto Buch

No real good piece in there unless you’re convinced the Oilers miss the playoffs next year

Insane overpay by Oilers. I wouldn’t. And why do the Blues want a Rental UFA in Foegle?

Not from a red hot Foegele playing the best hockey of his career. That’s not the cap you she’s going into the playoffs. Besides, Foegele is part of the core, well liked by the room, the goal will be to keep him and try to extend him.

“Part of the core” is a stretch, but I agree that the Oilers should hang onto him rather than move him at the deadline. His energy and physicality will prove valuable come playoff time.

He trains with the McDavids Oilers Posse every off season. Also McDavid has said in the past not to move Foegele. A huge reason for Foegeles on ice breakout this year has been Drais mentorship as well. So maybe not as much of a stretch as you think.

That’s nice and all, I’d expect that from teammates if they want to have a cohesive and successful unit, but that doesn’t mean he’s apart of the true core. I’d confidently say there are plenty of names above him. Foegele is a valuable player to the team, make no mistake about it, but if the going gets tough, and decisions have to be made, there a a number of guys staying in EDM before he is. The good thing is that isn’t the case right now, and the even better thing is he’s buzzin out there. We’re in agreement that there is no point in moving him.

I think a solid comparison would be Ryan Malone on the Penguins. He was beloved both on and off the ice, but it’s a business. There was no chance we were moving him at that 2008 deadline. Everyone would’ve loved for him to stay in PIT after 2008, but only for the right number. I don’t consider that a core player. It’ll be interesting to see if management can keep him around at the right number come summer time. No point in getting that far ahead of things though. This team is on a roll, that’s what matters.

He could quickly become part of the core though. All it takes is one hard decision (to move someone else) and one extension and he’s in. For example, I would consider Nuge and Hyman as part of the core. I would not consider Kane. If Kane doesn’t bring what we need in the playoffs, I could see him moved to allow for a Foegele extension. Kane is at 5M as an aging power forward who’s getting decently marketed as a premier playoff warrior in this League, where as Foegele is only emerging. Keep in mind too, Foegle was traded for from a Hurricanes team that he did not like, he came to Edmonton for opportunity and he was given opportunity. So I think if we free up the right amount of dollars, he could easily resign here
