Description
I wouldn’t give Igor more than $7.5m. Giving a 29 year old goalie a massive contract would kill this team

Temporary solutions... Quick isn't gonna be able to handle the work of a starter at his age
Georgiev has shown flashes outside of new york of being a very good goaltender
Talbot has been a very good goaltender usually

The good teams are able to rotate through temporary solutions (Avs, Vegas, Kings with Talbot, canes)

Igor is a great goalie. Days of goalies making 10m is over. Igor will also need to step up his high end consistency if he wants more than 7.5

Igor is one of the two things making that franchise relevant... there is a reason Carey Price got 10m

All of those teams make their goalies lives very easy.

          NYR does not do that.

Talbot and Georgiev are starters who are pretty flukey and just had decent years with the Rags.
Halak had worse numbers in New York than he did in Boston and Long Island
Quick hasn't proven he can keep it up over an entire season at this stage of his career

You don't have a system to insulate goalies like the Hurricanes, Knights, or Flyers do and you don't have a generational talent coming up so you're probably not going to be as good.

Hence why you trade Igor and get better players to upgrade the defense and offense to create a better protection for the goalies. Trade/sign players who are dominate at 5v5

This is the rangers we are talking about. They’ll always been relevant and pretty much always playoff bound because guys around the league want to come here

Exactly... it's easy to have a .900 when your only facing 25 shots a game and only like 2.5 xGA/60

I hope you realize that NYR was Talbot's first NHL team and he was developed by Benoit Allaire and that's why he's good, even if flukey now that he's away from Allaire. He was a major part of a President's Trophy winning season when Lundqvist was out with an injury

Georgiev, again, mainly developed by Benoit Allaire.

Halak was still a more than serviceable backup at 37 years old. Obviously he's going to put up better numbers before age-related decline.... what are you even talking about

Quick will be fine just like all of these other goalies have been fine. Rangers have been in a slump lately and leaving him out to dry. How do you go from being completely cooked in LA to putting up vintage numbers suddenly the next year.... oh wait, Benoit Allaire

How is the Canes' system that insulates goalies working out for you so far? Because the vast majority of Canes fans I see on this forum, on X, Instagram, are consistently talking about needing a solid goalie.

Goalies are the last thing NYR needs to worry about.

I mean Kochy allowed 5 goals on 18 shots against the islanders lol And the devils complain about their goalies giving up weak goals all the time

So let’s not act like that system is 100% perfect

You've not made the playoffs in 4 of the last 7 years... you guys aren't really special.
Sure you've had a run since the lockout but just like the Wings it'll end and you'll go back to your late 90's-early 00's form

Wow congrats you picked the time frame when they sent out “The Letter” and opted to rebuild 😂

Just face it, guys rather play for the rangers than the hurricanes. It happens. Call the rangers lucky i dont care but that’s how the hockey world is

The problem is the rest of your roster. With the other contracts on it (Trouba, Panarin, Goodrow, and the way the Kreider, Mika, Trochek deals likely age), you cannot build a team that can win a cup off being a good team.

Every semblance of playoff success you've had has been in spite of the rest of the team and because of Igor. He's saved you more than a goal per game extra come playoff time. Even peak lundqvist in the early 2010s was only peaking at half of that.

And you haven't won a single conference finals game since I was in preschool.... talk about not being special

And you guys haven't won a cup since the 90's... at least the Canes hae won a cup since I've been alive

Haven't you gotten knocked out of the playoffs by NJD twice in that time?

And all it takes is for him to string together 4 bad games in the playoffs and it’s goodbye

He has to have a really really bad game to the goalie to single handily take us out of it

And the rags system lost to the devils despite igor letting in 9 fewer goals than he should have last year.

Guess by on that price alone habs could look at that.. but with price still on the books doubt they hand out another giant goalie deal.

Congratulations on your cup 18 years ago? Have done nothing since then. Just like the Rangers. But the Rangers have gotten much closer than you, multiple times

Congratulations on your Cup 20 years ago, opposed to ours 30 years ago. Huge flex
