This means if today’s roster was extrapolated right to the last day of the TDL, we’d have 8m of cap space (the full AAV equivalent). You’ve added $12+m of cap space. Utilizing LTIR (Freddie) in this case does not work the way the website does the math. The Canes would not get full cap relief on Freddie’s contract.

What I mean is that today’s projected deadline space is calculated by the daily cap accumulation based on today’s roster staying static between now and March 9th. That is extremely unlikely…

What happens if Svech is hurt but not bad enough to go on LTIR, but then another forward injury happens. If the Canes recall any players, this changes the equation and would lower the deadline cap calculation. This cap math is done every day.

Additionally - if the Canes moved Freddie to LTIR right now, they only get his $3.4m AAV + their current cap hit ($81.8m+$3.4m = $85.2m upper ceiling). They don’t get ( 83.5 + 3.4 ) $86.9m upper limit.

if the Canes LTIR Freddie after they use up the accumulated space then yes they will get the full amount (likely why we havent put him on LTIR yet).

Even CapFriendly admits that LTIR is complicated and almost impossible to answer with this website tool. I’m not an expert either. The CapFriendly projection is as good as it’s going to get.

Id be curious to know how much 'deadline space' we had going into the deadline last year. This is honestly the first time ive ever looked at it and my mind is blown hahaha. I was really that naive to think that this cap stuff was simple.LOL

Well…last year was much easier to calculate because we set our cap relief in training cap as we used Gardiner’s number when the rosters were set. Canes didn’t accurate any daily cap relief last year. Teams using LTIR space don’t accrue space to the TDL.

Could do some kind of trade Pesce for Gibson as a base. I know a lot would be against it though

Back to the daily cap space issue. You’d have to do a tiered trade with the ducks as you mentioned, for 8m net increase worth of space, then put Freddie on LTIR, the do the remainder of the trade. I don’t think there is any precedence for this, and might be frowned upon.
