god i hate reaves

just an idea if tampa were to miss the playoffs. have had a mediocre start to season but mainly bc Vasy has been out. it was rumored stamkos and Tampa management haven’t had extension talks yet.

i’d say if tampa were outside of the playoffs by the deadline the idea of moving Stamkos isent 0%

We’ve been on point lately. Stamkos has said multiple times publicly he’s never waiving his NMC too. If he’s leaving it’s via Free Agency.

he was literally almost a leaf a few years ago until the very last second. i could see him waiving his NMC to come home for the last few months of his contract

A few years ago? That was 8 years ago lol. And he turned down your incredibly lucrative contract offer for Tampa Bay.

ya they could but the point here would be to have him for a playoff run. they could always extend him too.

Leafs don’t want to waste assets for 3 extra months of stammer

And according to both Stamkos and Yzerman the morning after meeting with Toronto Stamkos walked into Yzerman's office and said give me what you can FULL NMC buyout proof I'll sign it. He signed the deal Yzerman offered in December. Steven Stamkos on Lightning TV's "The Block Party" "I can't say what will happen when my contract expires however, I can guarantee I'll be a bolt until then."

typically when u acquire players at the deadline ur “wasting assets” if u don’t win the cup that year. they “wasted assets” on 3 or 4 months of O’reilly for him to get injured and lose in the 2nd round. it’s just the way sports work. GM’s have to take chances.

a reason Tampa had those cup runs was because their GM traded away assets because the chances of the assets actually turning into someone substantial is small. everything is up to chance.

He did say he was disappointed there weren't talks this off season, however the next sentence he said he's ready to sign today . So, he's probably not going to ask what some on here thinks his open market value is.

yeah man, I too would be upset if I was the captain on the first and only team to reach 3 consecutive Stanley Cup finals in a salary cap era with a relatively intact core, record my first 100 point NHL season, and be on pace to be over a point a game once more with a teams management that's always looking to add cost-effective solutions at the deadline to give us the best possible window at contending for another Stanley Cup.

I'd be absolutely furious /s

Sarcasm aside I'm sure management and Stamkos' agency are more than likely waiting for a cap number to be finalized (is it 87.5, or 88.5, whatever) and for him to see how he's feeling at the end of the season. He might be playing his best hockey yet despite his goal scoring days being behind him, but remember that he's injury prone. The right deal will get done when the right time comes. I have no doubt.
