Potential way to get Kane Hanifin

Description
Not sure this is even a good idea, but it was a thought I had ... Leafs are in a unique position as they could care less what they have to pay Kane over the term of a longer contract. Realistically Kane probably knows it's unlikely he plays past next year and if he does, then great, you've got Patrick Kane for $3M. If not, he goes on LTIR and adds another $12M to his career earnings., which I'd expect is a lot higher in actual dollars than anyone else would offer him on a 1-2 year deal. Total guesswork, but I'd imagine someone will offer him $5-6M on a 1-year deal, maybe $4M x 2.

Hanifin seems to make sense for this team and Robertson may just be showing enough promise to finally get some value out of him. Not sure Calgary likes him though, so might have to be a bigger trade involving more parts (Liljegren and Zadorov maybe?).

Flames likely decline but if Robertson is getting traded this would be the trade I’d want, but Hanifin hasn’t been linked to the leafs once and likely won’t waive

Calgary aint giving up Hanifin 50% retained with a 3rd for a traffic cone a injury prone middle 6 winger and a 1st no chance.

Robertson is not interesting at all in a deal, undersized, left shot, can't stay healthy and plays the same position where the Flames have Pelletier, Honzek, Zary, all of which are 22 or younger. Robertson doesn't fit a need whatsoever.

Add a 1st+ for the trade.

Kane isn't set to meet with TML so I think it's a stretch he will go there.

Fair enough .. Let me ask you this, how would your view change if Robertson continues at a point-per-game pace for like another ~15-20 games with no injuries? He's gotten pretty unlucky and hasn't had a decent enough run in the NHL to firmly categorize him as a middle six winger, IMO. Would you be interested in a 22-year old, former OHL goal scoring leader (55G in 46 games), who hasn't really had a real chance until now, and is putting up top line numbers in exchange for your 2-3 Dman who we're assuming (in this scenario) will walk in the offseason? 1st for a 3rd is in exchange for paying Klingberg $1M to singlehandedly increase your draft position lol

Ya it's maybe unlikely, but figured I'd throw it in to make the $$$ work. What do you think of the Kane strategy?

Are the reports that he already met with them false? Honest question, since it's hard to know what to believe these days lol

Kane will be signed some time this month. Calgary doesn't have remotely enough cap space to do this unless they make other trades first. Which won't happen since they are on record to not be rushing anything

I think both Honzek and Zary have the potential to move to center. I would have interest in Robertson but I would have more interest in Liljegren, Minten, or Niemela from Toronto. I would take Robertson over Cowen though

I think Leafs would consider it with a Hanifin extension in place.

I’m not interested in Kane forwards are firing on all cylinders why mess with that but there is a chance he signs with us

I mean, he puts it in the net, we could use that. I do agree that we have more than enough undersized left shots and mixing him in just over complicates a mediocre mess of middle 6 guys.

Minten would be the one I would target out of that group, the Flames are a mushy mess of 20 - 22 year old middle 6 prospects, Minten buys you some more years of control as opposed to Robertson and the Flames could fit him in a new core age much better. I personally don't have much interest in Robertson, I shouldn't say "the Flames have no interest" cause I have less than zero clue.

Mediocre mix of a middle six is a perfect way of putting it. The pipeline is similar to the roster in that there is zero punch outside of hopefully Coronato.

Klapkas big and scores, I don't know what he'll be in the NHL, sounds like most people cap him as a bottom 6 guy but who knows. All I know is somebodys gotta go.

Ya I really don't think Kane would add much to this group. I just put it together cause I thought it was an interesting chance for the Leafs to use their financial might, in a cap world.

I wouldn't say the forwards are firing on ALL cylinders since defence is a "cylinder" after all, but they have looked much better in the last two games anyways.
