18/19 Contending For Years To Come, Building In House (Explanations)

Description
This is if Garth decides to keep his picks, not trade and rather build the team from within and not make stupid signings because he's too loyal to his players.

Assuming the rink situation is finally cleared up in Belmont and with the way these signings have been going I think getting Tavares signed for a 8x$10M contract are pipe dreams at this point. Luckily the Islanders have ample cap room to get this done and should get this done.

Koivula won rookie of the year in the Liiga this year, not sure if he'd be ready to come over in 2018/19 but he's a huge body (6'4 220lbs), cheap option that could be used on the 4th line and eventually work his way up as he's been compared to Anders Lee so he's got a bit of scoring touch himself.

Isles have way too many defensive prospects/young defensive players and I'm hoping they end up moving one of them because not all of them are going to get a shot. There's not enough room for Wotherspoon, Toews, Vande Sompel, Aho, Salo, Mayfield, Pelech and Quenneville on top of Leddy, Boychuk, De Haan and Pulock.

Im hoping this shapes up to be the Isles Top 6 in 2018, Aho is there cause he's already considered to be NHL ready so I'm assuming Garth wouldn't want to move him, but he is already 21 so we'll see. I really really really like Toews and Wotherspoon so I hope they can make it into the lineup soon. Only thing I really don't like about this is that besides Mayfield, Boychuk, De Haan and Salo every other prospect/roster player is offensive minded. We're gonna suck at defense but wouldn't be surprised if we're Top 5 in Goals For.

If Garth is still staying in house for a forward I hope he decides to bring over Golyshev (25 goal scorer in 2015/16) from Russia (KHL), he had a down year this year but he's still young and the Isles don't really have any other NHL ready prospects unless Dal Colle or Bellows show major improvement this year.

I really hope he doesn't bring back Bailey (would be way overpaid) or Hickey (just terrible) and saves the cap for signings or a trade. He built up a GREAT prospect pool over the years and it's time he actually gives them a chance instead of signing aging forwards/defensemen.

Also assuming they keep their picks next year, hoping Calgary has a down year and the Isles making the playoffs I hope they end up looking at Oliver Wahlstrom, Joel Farabee and Filip Zadina next year in the 1st round.

Vision of a Praying Mantis. A great team for the future! I look forward to watching Garth now sign Drew Stafford or Denis Wideman for $5 million plus

That's my biggest fear because that's totally something Garth would do. Just hope he let's the kids handle business instead of holding them in the minors for years.

I can't see Snow signing anymore FAs apart from necessary Bridgeport signings. He's already got a good mix of youth and veterans (Ladd, Chimera, Seidenberg, Boychuk).

MY biggest hope for the 2019 roster is the possiblity of trading Andrew Ladd. If he has a good enough year early on, say on track for a 50 point year, we could trade him to a team that's looking for one final Cup run before rebuilding, like the Blackhawks. They've been going for a "put the band back together" apporach, and Ladd isn't too old to move at this point. But if Ladd bombs again, I'll admit we're stuck with him.

Didn't see this till now but I'm really hoping Ladd gets back on track. He was such a poor attempt at trying to replace Okposo, I'm gonna go with Garth panicked and just signed the 1st guy that was available that put up decent stats. I would love to trade that contract, but if he does get moved it's probably not until the last year or 2 of his contract. I do think the worst part about that contract is it's $5.5m throughout and not front loaded like most of these older guys contracts are. All in all though I'm really hoping he scores a goal before like the 23rd game this year.
