why would the Isles do this? Martin has only one year left on his deal at $1.5M and he's one of the heart and soul guys of the team. Jarnkrok is nearly as old as Martin, has two more years on his deal, and makes more money (in addition to his 10-team NTC.) Isles lose cap flexibility not just this year, but for two more after this and for what? Expecting him to repeat his 2022-23 season would be foolish - he scored 31 of his 39 points at 5v5 (16 G/15 A). His two most common linemates at 5v5? Mitch Marner and John Tavares.
There's no other team in the league that's going to be able to place Jarnkrok with that type of talent. Expecting him to score 20 goals again skating with guys like Casey Cizikas and JG Pageau is just silly.
