He's waivers exempt and unless Markstrom or Vladar start the season with an injury, makes no sense to sit in the press box. Get some games in, he'll be a factor later in the season.

He's been pretty decent, I think he'll still get 20+ mins a game, during even-strength, the 3 pairs typically get similar ice-time.

It's speaks more about the issues with the Flames' defence lineup than Weeger. He's probably the most capable of being moved around the roster.

Hanifin is very shaky playing defence and is least out of position when playing with Ras. Tanev and Osterle are pretty steady defensively, so I'd rely on them more than the other two pairs. That leaves the odd pair with Weeger and big Z, who've played a lot together last season as the third pairing.

Right, I don't see them making the lineup either, but this is a best case scenario, if the kids do really well to impress. I'm a huge Ruzicka fan and hope he gets going too. With Pelletier out of the lineup and assuming they also keep Gilbert as the 7D), there are still 3 roster spots open.

The lineup is devoid of some 4th line grinders and crease-crashers, so I've pencilled in Hunt who's had a outstanding pre-season showing.

Fwiw, after watching the last couple games, Honzek doesn't seem quite ready for the faster pace yet. He might get a few games but probably gets sent back.
