Flames are gonna want a whole Chiarot type package for Hanifin (per the consensus from Flames fans).

      Best to avoid him

More than that actually. Because Chiarot sucks, whereas Hanifin is actually quite good.

Chiarot was great way back when he was traded. But overpaid for because he was big and physical, which GM's overvalue, which Hanifin just isn't. If a GM is going to overpay for Hanifin be my guest but I'm praying it won't be us

I didnt put much thought into the trade personally. Just took it from somewhere but you are likely correct theyd want more. Hopefully trotz wouldnt be willing to pay more because having a 3rd expensive LHD would be a luxury

Great was never a word that accurately described Chiarot's game, but I agree the GM's overvalued his size and physicallity. A good comp would be if teams decided to overvalue Zadorov right now. I'm not sure why you think Hanifin is so bad, he'd be the second best dman on the Preds

It would make sense if you think Mcdonagh's game is falling off a cliff, which it appears to be. For what it's worth the rumor was that Hanifin wasn't looking for a crazy huge number on his new deal, around $6.5M was the number floated by some Flames insiders

Never said he was bad. I've said multiple times he's a fine 2LD, just CGY fans massively overrate him.

Right, of course he would be the 2nd best dman on a retooling/rebuilding team.

He was stellar in a shut down role prior to that trade, and seemed to be a genuine top 4 DFD. Him falling off a cliff and sucking now does not mean anything for when he was traded.

I don't think he's overvalued. Most Flames fans seem to expect a package similar to what other comparable players have gotten, basically a 1st, 2nd and 3rd or comparable pieces. I mean look at what Provorov returned and Hanifin is a better more consistent player

I think he would make sense on NSH because he's still only 26 and you guys clearly aren't going full rebuild.

We'd be tying way too much money on the left side when our clear need is down the middle and needing game changing forwards.

I've said it in other threads, I believe the Provorov comp is a fine comparable. I wouldn't go more than a mid-late first.

McDonagh is going downhill but Nashville isnt really in a competitive place right now. Our center group isnt great and our wings are young and inexperienced. Kindof a nomans zone right now. My opinion is we should step back and build through draft but what weve done is basically shuffle deck chairs so i coukd see us going after hanifin.

The Novak trade to TB is interesting (and I'd love to see him on our squad) but I don't think TB would be the team to pay a first.
Novak's deal is up at the end of the season and his expiry status is UFA unlike the Hagel and Jeannot trades we've made in the past.

Also have to keep in mind the age of guys like Stamkos and Hedman, so by 2026 that first could be valuable to us. Definitely could be a great add to the depth though.

I figure if novak has another productive year there will be somewhere willing to part with a 1st for him as his contract aav can fit anywhere with ease. I picked tampa because theyve been quite willing to part with 1st in the past.

For sure, I can honestly see Julien doing that anyways to be honest and I'd welcome it with open arms. He'd be a great fit in the system no doubt, but I personally think TB is getting around to the point where we need to be a little more conscious of our futures. Ethan Gauthier and Isaac Howard can only be your top prospects for so long haha.

Imo tampa is to the point where they definitely need to stop giving out future 1st rounders
