Flyers don’t need to be better, they are tanking, so with that in mind why would they take on a player for 4 years who fills the same role as Laughton, he’d be 4th line center and we don’t need a 2.4mill 4th liner center, definitely not if we are giving up picks
The main point is this.
NHL GMs don’t “look a gift horse in the mouth.”
The fact is the Flyers aren’t tanking, they are trying to build a winning culture.
This is a deal where the Flyers are getting the clear better end of the bargain, they are getting the better player and this better player will play and he will likely retain his value even after a 1,2, or even 3 seasons. At which time the Flyers will recover the 3rd rd pk they spent to get him (maybe it’s a lower pick but still recovering something lessens the cost). Hence why this deal is a no-brained which the Leafs would never offer in the first place.
