My Habs team - Thornton ++

Créé par: bgc
Équipe: 2017-18 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 29 juin 2017
Publié: 29 juin 2017
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
> De Haan can put up 20+ min per game, making a decent big size left D to pair up with Weber. He blocks shots too. NYI have already Boychuk, Leddy, Hickey, Seidenburg and Ryan Pulock would likely have a place on the line-up for 17-18. They reportedly wish to add more dept in their offence. Plekanec is UFA at the end of the season. Will likely resign for a discount.

> Shaw is a short gritty player. Montreal has already enough, and Gallagher can play that role for Montreal + he has more skills. A team way below cap hit could affort his contract. He sure brings a lot of things to a team. The return is below what Habs had to pay for him, may it compensate for average contract.

> Thornton as a big 1st center, a need for the past 15 years in Montreal. Great leadership. Would helps Pacioretty reach 40 goals and mentor Galchenyuk, who could really use a relief for the 22 yo.

> With Radulov signing, Montreal has at last 2 good offensive trios. At 61 points last year, I don't see Radulov as a bad signing. Just need to watch the term. MTL has enough money. The cap space is enough to resign Carey Price and Pacioretty once Thornton retire.

If i'm your trade partners I'd pass.

NYI ... you keep half his salary ... I'd still say no.

ARI ... still a few years away ... So I'd keep my picks and fill out my roster elsewhere.

I wouldn't mind retaining salary and/or adding a 2nd pick over it. Keep in mind Hamonic was traded for a 1st and two 2nd. Hamonic is imo a far better player then De Haan.

...and still under contract for 3 more seasons at a really decent AAV of 3.85 M$. De Haan will likely be sign between 4 and 5 M$ on short term or 5-5.5 on long term.

I suspect Thornton will sign in LA. I don't think he enjoyed being in a big hockey market like BOS. Hence, the desire to stay in Cali where the media is a little more reserved. MTL would be a nightmare for him.

A few years away but spent a 1st pick on Stepan (27 y.o.) and added up Hjalmarsson (31 y.o.). They want to win and have already plenty picks after 1st round.

I agree with you on some levels. I think Thornton signing in Montreal is unlikely. Altough, seeing LA center line (Kopitar, Carter) I don't see where Joe would fit. He wants to play and would have 1st center spot in Montreal right away + chances to win.

About the market, I'm hesitant over that assumption. Joe Thornton was a very young guy while in Boston.

It's not an assumption, he was very vocal about the media in BOS. In LA, Carter presumably moves back to wing and Joe takes the 2C position.
