Assuming the Senators cannot find a taker for Joseph and the Islander cannot find a taker for Pageau.

Change of scenery move for both players. Retention is required to make it cap in/out. The 2M retained is a sunk cost for the NYI.

Both teams would be compliant. It would leave Ottawa 895k to sign Pinto to a 1 year deal. Given that he is a 10.2(c) RFA with only one year of pro experience, that isn't outlandish.

Being unable to dump Joseph without cap coming back would force the Senators to run with a 21 player roster, but they would still be compliant.

MacEwan and Parker are placeholders for whichever two forwards do not make the NHL roster of the Senators and have to be sent down to make the team compliant. Same deal with Kuhlman.

The isles are not trying to find a take for Pageau, they want him. He was rumored to be in packages for players like Debrincat, not a 4th liner.
