Description
There's allot of rumors about the Pens going after Duchene. It's going to cost allot. What I've done here is a minimum IMO. But I wouldn't doubt that it would cost two prospects (ZAR for instance) plus Maatta and picks. And even then I'm not sure it's worth it cuz then it's a scramble trying to find players to fill the gaps. And yes I know Duchene probably replaced Bonino as the 3rd line center but $6mil/year is allot to be paying a guy to play 10-15 minutes a night as most 3rd liners do. I think he's better served on the wing on the one of the top 2 lines and hopefully resigning Bonino for less than he can make on the market.

I like your thought of Duchene on wing with PIT. He DOES prefer playing RW, but I'm sure LW wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Unfortunately I think you're right on the money for Duchene. RFAs are pretty realistic as well. Filling the hole left by Maatta with Campbell and 3 years of Clendening? Seems like a recipe for disaster on defense.

I agree with your assessment about Duchene trade value. And I think it's a wrong direction for Pens organization to go. Our team already has the best NHL offense. We don't need to sacrifice our D for boost even more our off.

But man, 3 years for Clendening!?!? WHY!?!? It'd be a terrible sign in terms of lenght contract.

Another thing that I dislike in your armchair is the 3rd D-pair. It makes no sense at all. Both Campbell and Clendening are offensive minded d-men. There's no way to see those guys playing with each other. Besides, I can't see Campbell leaving his home in Chicago, unless they don't want him anymore.

i love the idea of duchene but the reality if another thing. there are few c available and those will prob be over paid and clendening and campbell,??? if campbell doesnt retire he will stay in chicago bonino possible grigorenko possible ?? on defense vegas trades miller ?? merrill ??
ufa quincey nestrov weircoich ?? one thing that may be possible and actually make the deal happen is if the pens throw in maybe erixon and corrado to get sakic to eat 1.5m of his salary. i think that is only way it would work i think we need 8-9 dmen i dont want a repeat of last year trade deadline injurys are gonna take a toll again 2 seasons 106 and 107 games best to have something on hand to start with for the push to 3 peat. i would also like to see them get a more experienced back up maybe keith kankaid 19 back to back games this year and i would like to have murray rested and jarry get to play 50-60 games in ahl rather then 25 games with only single nhl game under his belt but coach sully may have more trust that jarry is ready.

The reason for the 3 years is that he's 24 years old. He's not gonna want a 1 year contract. IMO
