Hoffman value is null right now even if Hughes keep 50% but at deadline if he have score 15 to 20 goal this could happen. Not many $$ will be left to pay him and mtl would keep 50% of is salary they could have an return of an fourth or fifth pick.

My apologies, missed the fact that he was just flowing through Chicago for salary retention. Having said that, the Hawks already have one retention spot tied up for the next two season with Jake McCabe, can’t see them using another as a third party in a Hoffman deal, especially for 4th and 5th round picks. The Hawks have several players of their own that could retain on that would probably yield a better return (Murphy, T Johnson, Foligno, Hall, Perry).
