Can definitely see the Avs pulling off a Mantha trade. Looks like we’re doing low risk, high reward trades and I love it.

I still don't like that they gave up Newhook, even though they got a good return. That one could come back to bite in the long run. However, the team looks better with RyJo for Compher and Colton for Newhook right now. It's definitely not enough though. They need a guy who is capable of slotting into the top six. Mantha makes a lot of sense imo.

I’m nervous about Newhook too. People are comparing him to Jost but he’s already better than him at this point in his career. But getting a role player in Colton and Gulyayev for him is pretty nice. I do agree though that we need a Top 6 guy and Mantha could use the talents of MacKinnon and Rantanen to help him.

Oh, I hadn't heard that. Is he willing to retain salary, because that's a big deal if he goes to Colorado. I'd pay for a retained Mantha but not a full priced one.

Yea it was just this afternoon post-draft. I think it depends on the price and the retention but I don't think there's anything with Colorado off the top of my head that makes sense for both teams. They don't really have a bad money equivalent / reclamation project that the Caps would want in return and I doubt that they would want to give up like a 2nd and 3rd for Mantha at 3m which is at least what the Caps would ask for. Maybe some 3-way deal with Mantha to COL, Girard to VAN, Garland to WSH and picks from VAN to COL??? IDK why Colorado would do that though unless they could immediately flip the picks again.
