You have 4 defenseman signed for 3 or more years in your top 4 currently. Yes wallander is a great prospect but does he still fit in Detroit’s future anymore. Colton can add grit and scoring to the top 9 or even top 6. Could the picks be a little higher, yes. But you are getting a proven yet still developing nhl winner for a defenseman who would most likely slot in at 5 or 6 when he does make your roster.

Yes colton could be in the top 6 if we could afford him but sadly we can’t. Wallander will be in the 3rd paring but he can be developed by hedman and Sergy to help this kid further develop. Not trying to diss Detroit but is Ben chariot going to be the mentor for this kid? Look at what hedman and max have turned Sergy into I feel wallinder can be that next player to come in at a cheap contract and turn into one of the best dmen in the nhl

See when you have 20 mil in cap space and a young team you can bury Chiarot if need be. He only has 3 years left on his deal. Not ideal but you can also buy him out and save 2 mil that way too.
