In 2019 The raptors had a solid core but would get eliminated every year. Their Gm said fk it and traded his best player, best prospect and a first for a guy who was top 5 in the league but had 1 year left and would only sign in LA plus a useful role player. They won the championship and it was the greatest all in move ever.

MS obvsly isnt top 5 but he would be the best player on quite a few teams. Adding him and wheeler gives you 3 insane lines, mismatch nightmare. Can even keep MS if u find a way to dump JT after a year

There is no way to dump Tavares other than waiting until his contract runs out, which is really unfortunate because if he had only one year left instead of two, they could probably afford to keep the whole core together for a few more years. It sounds like Matthews and Nylander may both be willing to sign extensions, but they'll want raises which will kick in for the 2024-25 season. The team won't be able to afford that with Tavares still on the books at $11M (unless there's a huge increase in the cap for that season). That $11M comes off the books in summer 2025, leaving enough money for Matthews and Nylander's new salaries and an extension for Marner too, but unfortunately one of them will have to go for them to make it through 2024-25.
